About the project

At the October 2021 Ordinary Council Meeting, council endorsed updated Concept Design B for alterations and additions to the Dungog Library.

As this design involves removal of the existing public amenities, council has also approved additional funding for a new amenities facility in the Bruyn Park/Jubilee Park precinct. Funding for these improved amenities consists of a $75,000 Hunter Water grant, and $55,000 from Round 3 of the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure (LRCI) funding.

Council approved a development application for the library upgrade at its March 2022 Meeting, and tenders were then called.

At the June 2022 Council Meeting, council accepted a tender from Connex Management & Construction Pty Ltd to deliver the scope of works for the construction of the Dungog Library Upgrade at a total cost of $1,080,431M including GST.

Council will further allocate $220,000 from the Repealed Developer Contributions funds to supplement the project budget allocation.

The library upgrade project is funded by a $500,000 NSW State Library Public Library Infrastructure Grant, $330,000 LRCI Round 2 funding, and council contributions.

It is important to note that the parameters of the original NSW State Library grant stipulate the existing available floor space for the facility must be retained, and the design has been developed within these parameters.

Our interim library services

** Following the recent awarding of the tender, please be advised that the existing Library will be closed for two weeks from Monday 20 June 2022, prior to the Interim Library opening on Monday 4 July 2022 in the Doug Walters Pavilion. **

This will allow sufficient time for staff to clear the site and transport materials to both storage and the Doug Walters Pavilion prior to construction commencing.

While space limitations mean that the interim Library will not be able to offer the full range of library services, some services will continue during this period.

Please also be aware that the Doug Walters Pavilion is our Emergency Management Centre in times of crisis. Should the Centre need to be established during the term of the library build, the interim library will be closed for that period.
