Dungog Shire will benefit in close to $1 Million in funding for community assets that help make a positive impact to the wellbeing of its residents.

The money is made available under the Government's $160 Million Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF), which is administered by the Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW). Round Five funding includes a share of $50 million dedicated to councils and community groups in country NSW for upgrades to local parks, sporting fields, community halls and community led programs, all which will increase the wellbeing of regional communities.

Mayor John Connors applauded news of the State Government investment in helping create first-class facilities for country communities. The Mayor joined NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell at Dungog Showground today for the grant announcements which are part of almost $5.2 million for the Upper Hunter Electorate to be invested in 24 SCCF projects.

Today’s announcement reveals $441,000 for an accessible amenities block, including shower facilities at Dungog Showground, along with a $248,309 boost for Radio Dungog's broadcasting capabilities and a further $175,689 for the Top Blokes Foundation to expand mentoring programs into the Shire.

“We are grateful this latest funding announcement that enhances our community facilities and reaffirms Dungog Shire as a wonderful place to live and be,” Cr Connors said.

“We strive to provide accessible facilities for all across the shire and this money helps us do that to our much-loved and patronaged community assets.” The money expected to be available to Dungog Shire Council by the end of the month.

“We are pleased to also note that Dungog Community Radio will receive funding to build a state-of-the-art broadcast studio within the Dungog Showground complex.

This funding allows our community radio station to improve broadcasting capabilities to continue to share some of the sector's best news, talk, music and entertainment programs.

Radio Dungog was incorporated as Dungog Community Radio Inc on 25 January 2010 and its dedicated band of volunteers provide programs to the Dungog Shire community that are diverse and relevant to the Vacy, Clarence Town, Paterson and Gresford areas.
