Message from the Mayor: 6 September 2024
Published on 06 September 2024
Good morning everybody and welcome to this week's message on behalf of Mayor Connors. This week, I'll talk a little bit about pre poll, about Australia Day nominations, and give the road and infrastructure report for works commencing next week.
First up, we've got pre poll. The Local Government Elections are on the 14th of September. As we've advised, there's a fair bit of information available on the NSW Electoral Commission website now. Pre poll opens tomorrow, Saturday 7th September at the Doug Walters Pavilion from 8am to 6pm. If you need some more information, head to the NSW Electoral Commission website and search for Dungog and all the particulars for where you poll or pre poll will come up for you now.
Just a quick reminder too that the Australia Day nominations have been released. You may have seen this on our website and on our Facebook pages. We encourage people to be nominated for those awards, it’s such a great way to recognise community contributions from people who volunteer their time and who have made some great achievements in relation to what they do. So have a look on Council’s website for those forms and do some nominations. Our committee will be thrilled to receive the nominations and consider them.
Now to our weekly updates for work commencing next week. Allyn River Road up there at Eccleston, from Holton to the Gringhi bridge, those works are continuing on that project with shoulder and drainage works. Please make sure you follow the road safety signage through the work site
Lord St Dungog, from Hooke Street to Brown Street. Those of you in Dungog would have seen those works continuing this week, and they will again continue next week with curb and pavement works being undertaken.
Clements Rd in Gresford to Clements bridge, those works are continuing and our council crews are doing some stabilisation works next week. There is unfortunately going to be some extended traffic delays so we appreciate your patience while this work is being undertaken.
We also have Stroud Hill Rd, section three has commenced which includes the Fosterton Rd intersection and again, there's traffic lights at the intersection, so please be aware of that and follow those road safety directions.
The Dungog Showground amenities, the concrete slab of the new amenities block has been poured, and the amenities block should be continuing to progress this month. In Coronation Park, you might have seen further drainage works being undertaken, and there's some pathway and landscaping works that we're also doing there as well. It's a great little facility. Take your kids down there and have a great time. We’re also doing some sealed tar patching works in Bingleburra Road, Chichester Dam Road and Allison Road, so keep an eye out for our jet patches, and again, follow those traffic signage requirements.
We will be doing some slashing and vegetation maintenance on Salisbury Road. At Dowling St car parking we're doing some line marking. This is going to be undertaken as night work so that it's minimising any impact on the business owners and residents in Dowling Street. We're also doing foot path maintenance in Mackay Street and Dowling Street in Dungog as well.
In our parks Paterson, Vacy and Clarence Town, there'll be some park maintenance works and there will be weed spraying shire wide across our road reserves.
That's pretty much the update for this week. Again, head to Council’s website if you need more details about Australia Day nominations and we look forward to receiving. Thanks very much, everyone.
